“Ministry to the Military”

Peace Lutheran Church (Delhi/Green Township) will host a presentation on Ministry to the Military on Veterans Day Weekend, November 12 & 13. On Saturday, November 12 we will have several presentations and fellowship beginning at 2:30. We will close with worship/devotions at 6:00.

Since the Civil War, Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod pastors have served as military chaplains. Today, LCMS Ministry to the Armed Forces supports a total of 208 chaplains.

Pastors James Lucas and Ron Ewell will share how they have walked with and ministered to our family and friends in the “War Zone”.

·         Rev. James Lucas, Major, US Army Chaplain, will speak about his ministry in the armed services of 22 years. Of those 22 years as an Indiana National Guardsman (active), Jim had 2 deployments to Iraq, one to New Orleans, and 2 back to back tours in Afghanistan. He was in a combat zone for over 40 months total --rocketed, mortared, shot at, and in a vehicle roll over. He will retire from active duty on October 22.

·         Rev. Ron Ewell, Chaplain for the Federation of Lutheran Churches in Cincinnati and presently ministers at University Hospital and the Recovery Ministry at the Joseph House. Ron served in the armed services as an active Military Chaplain from 1986-1996 and served in Iraq during the Gulf War.

·         Ministry to the Military not only happens in the “War Zone” but can be an opportunity for family, friends and communities to compassionately share the Gospel.           Rev. Vern Bok (LtCol (retired) USAF, 24 years military service with Army Guard and Air Guard, called to active duty on 9-11, Operation Barnabas Counselor) will speak on establishing local ministry efforts to equip and encourage congregations and their members for compassionate care and Gospel-sharing outreach.

On Sunday, November 13, Pastor Lucas will be our continued guest for Bible study beginning at 9:15 and will deliver the sermon in our worship service that begins at 10:30. Mission Envelopes may be used to support “Christ the Healer” ministry in Over the Rhine at the Joseph House.
